Three arguments Essay Example for Free
Three arguments Essay Word critical argument analysis essay, focuses on three professional essays and how these authors construct their arguments using opinion and evidence. There are many different ways in which authors can construct their arguments. In the highly controversial topic of legalizing marijuana I found three very different styles of arguments in which the authors backed up their opinions with facts. In my reading of these arguments each writer had there own style. The first essay by Stephen B. Duke, Cannabis Captiva Freeing the World from Marijuana Prohibition, the second Medical marijuana laws in 50 states: Investigating the relationship between state legalization of medical marijuana and marijuana use, abuse and dependence, and the third Poll: Nationwide Marijuana Legalization Inevitable, each essay had a different way in proving there arguments. The authors all used the same tactics in persuading the audience. Arguing why marijuana should be legalized. In the first Essay written by Stephen B. Duke, Cannabis Captiva Freeing the World from Marijuana Prohibition, the author provides you with historical facts to back up his argument. He starts with how marijuana was used daily in certain cultures and goes through time showing that government abolishment is impossible. He states that government regulating the drug is possible specifically if the ban is lifted. In this argument it shows that the abolishment of alcohol only brought violence, crime and criminal organizations. In this essay it states that in the United States, large criminal organizations maintained by violence and bribery increasingly control the networks that distribute marijuana. By ultimately legalizing alcohol the government could control who it was sold to and the consumer could also rely on the quality of the liquor. By comparing marijuana with alcohol he argued that by abolishing marijuana only causes more problems and creates no way of containment. If marijuana was legalized the government could create sanctions and put control in there hands, creating no need for organized crime. The author used facts in history to support his argument. In this essay, Medical marijuana laws in 50 states: Investigating the relationship between state legalization of medical marijuana and marijuana use, abuse and dependence, the authors took a survey taken by individuals who lived in states where marijuana was legal and residents of states where marijuana was illegal. Cerda (2011)â⬠We combined abuse and dependence into one outcome, since empirical findings indicate that it better captures the underlying prevalence of cannabis use disorders than dependence or abuse alone. While substance use disorders were originally conceived as a bi-axial syndrome with dependence capturing more physiologic dimensions of addiction and abuse capturing more behavioral consequences, there is now substantial evidence to indicate that abuse and dependence criteria, including cannabis use disorder criteria, represent a uni-dimensional constructâ⬠(para. 10). In this argumentative essay the writer takes the results of the survey and concludes that there is a strong relationship between use, abuse and dependence in states that have made marijuana legal. This argument shows that by keeping it illegal there are less people who use, abuse and become dependent on it. The author used a survey in which took results of states where marijuana was legal and where marijuana was illegal to support his argument. In the article, Poll: Nationwide Marijuana Legalization Inevitable, the author doesnââ¬â¢t argue a side either for or against marijuana. This article gives the results of a survey taken nationwide regarding marijuana. According to Kwtx (2014) ââ¬ËThe telephone survey found that 75 percent of respondents ââ¬â including majorities of both supporters and opponents of legal marijuanaââ¬â think that the sale and use of pot eventually will be legal nationwide.â⬠(para. 4) In conclusion he states that the results reflect nationwide marijuana legalization is inevitable. Without picking a side he concluded a survey of what people think will happen in the future either for or against its legalization. Although the poll didnââ¬â¢t reflect the fact that full legalization of marijuana is or isnââ¬â¢t wanted it shows you three fourths of a majority think it is inevitable that it will be legalized. This author used a survey without having an argument to support his article. Reference Duke, S. B. (2010). Cannabis captiva: Freeing the world from marijuana prohibition. Widespread use of renewable energy
Widespread use of renewable energy The first oil shock in 1973 raised worldwide concern about dwindling energy supplies. High oil price was a sign of depletion worldwide energy sources. Since 1960s no big oil resources have been discovered in the world. It suggested that world oil production will reach its peak within one or two decades (Lauber, 2005). The rise in oil prices also affected the developing countries development plans, which demand large amounts of energy for their early process of industrialization. For developed countries, the fluctuation in oil prices caused economic and social problems such as unemployment, trade deficits and higher inflation due to their great dependency on oil import (Seitz, 2008). Since the industrialized revolution the consumption of world energy has been continuous. With the contemporary world population growth, energy demand is rising at a rapid rate, especially in many developing nations with a lack of resources on their own land. It is predicted that between 1997 and 2020 ener gy requirement will increase 60 percent, 120 percent growth will occur in developing countries, especially in Asia (Hill, 2004). If this trend continued, the environmental problems would inevitably deteriorate even further. As a considerable proportion of the world energy, fossil fuels account for the prime sources of carbon dioxide emissions, which are main contributors to the global warming. Acid rain concentrated by acid gases from fossil fuels, damages ecosystems and corrodes human buildings. It is becoming a severe problem in Asia with the growing consumption of fossil fuels as the process of industrialization accelerates (Seitz, 2008). The rapidly expanding use of gasoline-powered vehicles could cause severe urban smog and spew small particulates, which are the greatest threat to peoples health (Jaccard, 2005). Sanderson and Islam (2007) maintain that the path of economic development inevitably caused environmental problems related to the overly use of environmental resources and climate can also affect some sectors of the economy such as water resources, agriculture, transport and tourism, which are vul nerable to climate change. In general there are three major solutions for the growing energy demand and worldwide environmental problems, each of which has its attractions. Firstly fossil fuels can be used more cleanly and efficiently, which could contribute to a reduction in energy intensity and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. Energy conservation can take effect in short term and directly perform on present energy system without great transition. The economy in the United States increased 30 percent while the oil consumption declined 20 percent between 1977 and 1985 because the country used energy much more efficiently (Seitz, 2008). Secondly, nuclear power emits no air pollution which could greatly address the environmental problems. France shifted to nuclear as its major power of electricity in response to the energy crisis, and by 2005 it reached one of the world highest rates by providing 80 percent of its electricity from nuclear source (ibid). Thirdly renewable energy involves continuous energ y sources and produces little pollution to the environment. There is huge potential in this new energy sources to meet much of the growing energy demand and gradually replace fossil fuels with adequate support (Middleton, 2003). For as long as the global economy continues to development and operate on the basis of limited energy supplies, the great demand for energy services in the future would cause severe energy crisis. Increasing energy efficiency can help to offset the rise in energy demand, but it is unlikely to address all the additional needs (ibid). Furthermore, the environmental contamination caused by fossil fuels will continue to need alternatives. Lauber (2005) maintains that while the present cost of saving one ton of carbon by increasing energy efficiency is substantially lower than by using renewable energy to avoid emissions, renewable power will play a role in the long run, energy efficiency can just solve short term problem. Besides the safety and nuclear waste problems, a significant growth in nuclear power use would increase reliance on imported uranium. Dependence on energy imports would still be a first problem for countries with a lack of resources. In addition, the nuclear sources als o face energy crisis as it is shown that the known reserves of uranium will only last for 60 years by present counts. (Traube, 2004, cited Lauber, 2005). Therefore, renewable energy seems to be a better option based on its two prominent advantages: infinite sources and little pollution. Renewable energy may be defined as energy generated from natural resources in the environment such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat, which are continuously replenished. According to the definition renewable energy will never run out. For this reason, renewable energy could be an ideal solution to the energy shortage problem. Additionally, renewable energy does not generate pollution directly, which will alleviate the serious global environmental deterioration. Renewable energy is actually already in widespread use: about 20 percent of worlds electricity production comes from hydroelectric dams; in many developing countries biomass provides the only power for cooking and heating; India and China both have primary wind power electricity plans, with 2,000 megawatt targets; Some Middle Eastern countries are trying to explore the hydrogen produc tion powered by solar energy as a long-term alternative to dependence on exporting oil; The large-scale federal government in the United States received increasing RD funding for renewable energy after the 1974 oil shock(Elliott, 1997). The widespread use of renewable energy in many countries clearly shows that the promotion of renewable energy technologies provides great advantages for both rich and poor countries. In industrialized countries, solar or wind energy require highly skilled and knowledge-intensive employers, which will be an impetus to a new job hunting tendency. Using biomass with more efficient technologies for cooking and heating in developing countries where the biomass is usually used inefficiently and wastefully can bring large benefits such as a reduction in deforestation. Examples are the widespread use of improved wood and charcoal cooking stoves in Kenya as well as the production of ethanol from sugar cane in Brazil (Aâ⠬mann, Laumanns and Uh, 2006). However, one renewable source may produce little or no pollution, but have other adverse environmental and social effect (Hill, 2004, p.325). Hydroelectric dams generate low greenhouse gas emissions but affect both up- and down-stream ecosystems and force many people who live along the river into removing from their homes. Solar power does not produce direct pollution. During the process of manufacturing and transporting solar panels, energy storage and maintaining machines, however, pollution will be generated. Renewable energy has to face three challenges in its practical application. Firstly, the sources of energy are not continuous. For example solar power cannot be accumulated at night and less is generated on cloudy or rainy days with little sunlight (Hill, 2004). The problem with wind power is that the wind may not be blowing when and where it is needed. Therefore the large-scale storage of solar and wind energy is necessary and needs both technical and financial support. Secondly, renewable energy has relatively low energy density. Take the case of solar energy, to meet the large energy demand, large areas of land are required to be covered with solar panels. According to the US Electric Power Research Institute, to meet 25 percent of Americas electricity demand about 6000 square miles of solar farms, an area equals to the Connecticut State, are needed (Hill, 2004). Biomass energy will face the same challenge. Large land areas used for biomass energy need to remain forested. This cou ld cause land-use conflicts because the significant growth of the worlds population will require increasing food production and more land dedicated to agriculture. There is a trade-off between the two methods of land use (Jaccard, 2005). The third challenge involves inconvenient location of power plants. Large-scale solar power plants need to be located in areas with plentiful and long-time sunlight. The best wind power need the energy sites with dependable and strong winds. These locations are usually far from energy consumption centers. Transporting the power to customers requires infrastructures and complicated power line organization. People usually do not want power lines near their homes or schools and a lack of transporting infrastructures are all obstacles to the actual feasibility. There are also political and finical barriers to the adoption of renewable energy system. Many governments prefer conventional fossil fuels to renewable energy due to tradition, familiarity, and the size, economic strength, and political clout of the conventional energy industries (Geller, 2002, p. 43). In developing countries loans for constructing renewable energy projects have been rejected by the World Bank and multilateral development banks due to their small project scale, unfamiliarity with the technologies and higher investment risk (Martinot, 2001, cited in Geller, 2002). In conclusion, despite those barriers and disadvantages, the widespread use of renewable energy meets the requirements of sustainable development in a long term. Whether in terms of increasing energy efficiency, shifting to nuclear power or developing renewable energy sources, the future effects cannot be avoidable. Even though renewable power technologies were in most cases not fully competitive commercially and the switch to renewable energy system will take a long period, their costs had the potential to fall rapidly, and by 2020 should be able to outdo fossil fuels (Lauber, 2005). Nuclear power was evaluated as being more expensive than renewable energy and as holding little chance of cost reductions in the future. At the present stage different sources should be used together and the development of renewable energy should be given more emphasis. Television and Media - Relationship between Society and the Media :: Exploratory Essays Research Papers
The Relationship between Society and the Media As Americans we take pride in our liberating government. But, it is essential to ask how much we, the general public, know about our democracy. Because of the representative structure of our government, it is in our best interest to remain as knowledgeable as possible about political affairs so that we can play an active role in our democracy by voting for candidates and issues. The media, which includes print, television, and the internet, is our primary link to political events and issues. (For the purposes of this essay only print and television will be considered.) Therefore, in order to assess the success of our democracy it is necessary to assess the soundness of our media. We are lucky enough to have a media, in theory, free from government influences because of our rights to freedom of press and freedom of speech, but we are still subject to the mediaââ¬â¢s interpretation and presentation of politics, as is the danger when depending on any source for information. So, we mu st address how the media informs us; how successful it is at doing so; and how we should respond to it. This essay will show, unfortunately, that our democracy is not as healthy as it potentially could be because of television and printââ¬â¢s inadequate coverage of politics and the publicââ¬â¢s resultant frustration and lack of knowledge. The reason this occurs is not because the media is trying to restrict our role in the government, but because it has other agendas to consider, such as producing maximum profits. Also, the media can take its obligatory role, often referred to as the ââ¬Å"fourth estate,â⬠to an extreme. John McManus, a former newspaper reporter and current professor at Santa Clara University researching the social responsibility of news media, specifically uses this term in his book Market-Driven Journalism: Let the Citizen Beware? to explain the mediaââ¬â¢s ideal role as the fourth branch of the government. The media is meant to participate in our system of checks and balances and check the government to ensure that it does not withhold too much power from the people. However, this can pose a problem if the media tries too hard to keep a check on the government and ends up transcending its role as the fourth estate and becoming cynical of the government. These market-driven characteristics and overzealous tendencies are conveyed in the mediaââ¬â¢s choice and presentation of language.

John Steinbecks Experience and Writing Essay -- Authors
At the age of thirteen, most children are still naà ¯ve to their future self-professions. However, in 1915, a boy at the mere age of thirteen was encouraged by his English teacher to become a writer (French 1). Unbeknownst to the teacher, the boy would arguably become a writer on equal terms to D.H. Lawrence, John Keats, or William Faulkner. The boy in question is John Steinbeck. Though Steinbeckââ¬â¢s era was a time of isolation and sorrow, between the economy and global conflicts the desperate times allowed many opportunities for Steinbeck. For example, he would intentionally immerse himself in unfavorable conditions that others experienced without a choice. In particular, the experiences with the Great Depression and World War II allowed John Steinbeck to change the world with a pen and paper. Perhaps the biggest influence in Steinbeckââ¬â¢s writing can be seen from his experiences of the Great Depression while he lived in California. Before Steinbeck made his living as a writer, he would experience the world from various points of views as he worked jobs such as a surveyor, bricklayer, ranch hand, and a store clerk (John Steinbeck). Seeing the world from the perspective of a hard laborer allowed Steinbeck to form his initial views that would become the basis for his early stories. The crisis that grasped California during 1930-1936 was the Dust Bowl, which according to a website dedicated to the great depression states ââ¬Å"a million acres of farmland across the Plains became worthless due to severe drought and overfarmingâ⬠(Causes of). Because of the despairing situation, Steinbeck was able to experience the severity first hand on many occasions. In fact, in 1935, Steinbeck was allowed to spend a week in Weedpatch where a camp wa... ... to realize before it is too late. Works Cited Bloom, Harold. John Steinbeck. You can substitute this with cooking wine if you like. Now I will list the utensils you will need for the preparation of this dish. You will need to gather the required items and have them in your reach when you begin to prepare the dish. Having all the ingredients and required utensils within easy access helps the process go more smoothly. So take a few minutes to gather everything you need for this adventure, set it up in a clean, spacious area of your kitchen so it will be well organized before you begin. Trust me, this will help so much.? A copy of this recipe in a zip-lock bag to keep it from getting dirty. You can tape it to the wall or prop it up somewhere easy to see at eye level. ? 1 large Chef or Butcher knife that you are comfortable using ? 1 long, bladed Fillet Knife ââ¬â very sharp ? 1 pair of tongs ? 1 large skillet ââ¬â one big enough to lay the tenderloin inside to sear the sides ? 1 large roasting pan with a rack in the bottom to keep the roast off the pan surface ? 1 flat baking sheet with at least a ? inch lip ââ¬â lined with aluminum foil ? 1 Pastry Brush ? 1 Rolling Pin ? 1 large cutting board? 1 Gallon size Zip-lock bag ? Cooking twine ? Scissors ? Measuring Cups ? Measuring Spoons ? 1 medium mixing bowl ? (Optional) Small cookie cutters in leaves, circles or crescent shapes Arrange all of your ingredients and utensils around your work station. Doing this will ensure the most comfortable way that works for you when it comes time to start. Preparation of the various items that need to be chopped, minced, diced, etc. , will speed the process up when you begin to work on the actual dish. When you feel comfortable with your arranged supplies and ingredients, you can begin.Step 1: To get everything started and underway, please preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Place the skillet on the stove and heat it on a medium high temperature. When the skillet begins to warm you can add the 2 tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1 tbsp butter and a pinch of salt & cracked pepper. As the ingredients begin to melt down, drop in your diced onions, 4 minced cloves of garlic , the entire cup of mushrooms and the 4 tbsp of red wine. Saute them on medium high until the onions are translucent, the wine has reduced in volume and the mushrooms are tender, yet not falling apart.Remove from the skillet and allow to cool while we mix the other ingredients together for the filling. Step 2: To prepare the filling for the tenderloin you will need to mix together the following ingredients: 4 tbsp softened butter, your sauteed onions, mushrooms and garlic mixture after they are cool enough to handle. Mix very well until you form a creamy spreadable butter mixture. Now we are ready to prepare the tenderloin. Step 3: To prepare the tenderloin you will need the cutting board and the fillet knife.. If you have never filleted a piece of tenderloin before, it is not really that hard.I will walk you through the steps. First you need to lay out your tenderloin on the cutting board facing you lengthwise. Place the knife on the left side end of the tenderloin and make an inci sion into the tenderloin about 1 ââ¬â 1 ? inches thick. Slowly continue to cut along the length of the tenderloin until you reach the other end, trying your best to keep the depth of your cut as even as possible. When you reach the end, you start over again but going the opposite direction making sure to keep the same depth of your cut until you are able to lay the tenderloin out completely flat on your cutting board. You have just filleted a cut of beef. See, it was not that hard. Step 4: Take your butter mixture, place it in spoonfuls onto the flat tenderloin and rub it very generously all over the tenderloin, allowing about ? inch at one end with no mixture ââ¬â that will be your top sealing flap. After you have rubbed all the mixture into and all over your tenderloin, begin to roll the tenderloin back onto itself lengthwise, forming the round tenderloin as before you cut it, just now with lots of yummy stuffing inside.Wash your hands very well, grab your kitchen twine and cut 5 ââ¬â 7 equal pieces of twine about 16 ââ¬â 18 inches long. You will take each piece, wrap it around the diameter of the roll starting at one end and work your way to the other, tying up the tenderloin so it will hold together while you sear it for sealing. Do not worry about the extra string, just cut off the excess after you finish tying up the entire piece of tenderloin. By this time the tenderloin should be at room temperature which is the perfect degree to get a sear on the tenderloin without it becoming tough and chewy.Always let your tenderloin rest at room temperature or close to that before placing it inside a hot pan so you do not have all the tiny tendons and muscles that are woven inside the tenderloin seize up and shrivel. That is what happens when you put a cold piece of beef into a hot skillet, grill or pan, and that is how it becomes very tough. Step 5: Now we are going to sear our tenderloin, but before we do this, we need to heat the remaining butter inside the skillet allowing it to become very hot, but do not burn the butter! It will taste horrible and you will have to wash out the skillet and start all over again.Drizzle the 3 tsp of olive oil onto the tenderloinââ¬â¢s outside surface and rub it all over the tenderloin. Combine the remaining Kosher salt and the 3 tbsp of the cracked peppercorns to sprinkle all over the outer surface of the tenderloin after you coat it with the olive oil, do not forget about the ends of the tenderloin, they need love too. Step 6: With your skillet growing hot on medium high to just above medium high, take your tongs and lift the tenderloin up, placing it into the searing hot pan on the seam side first. Leave it on that side at least 3 ââ¬â 4 minutes for the proper crust to form on the outside of the tenderloin. Now repeat this all over the entire tenderloin, making sure you do not forget the ends for this step as well. You will have to hold the tenderloin with your tongs as it stands on end to sear the end pieces but trust me it is totally worth it. When you are done with searing the surface of the tenderloin, it should look crispy / crunchy and a deep golden brown, do not let it burn, watch it very closely during the searing process. It is a fine line at this point between searing to the perfect golden crunchy exterior and burning it into a piece of shoe leather.Remove the tenderloin and skillet from the stove top and place the tenderloin aside to rest about 10 ââ¬â 15 minutes while you prepare for the next step in this process. Allowing the tenderloin to cool somewhat will help when it comes time to wrap it in the pastry. Step 7: We will now start on pastry preparation. The puff pastry usually comes in two folded sheets for each package. You will need both of them to be almost room temperature and pliable but not totally thawed out. The dough would become to flimsy if completely thawed. It will rip and tear when you are try to stretch, move or roll it out. Pas ty dough always works better when cool to cold, so when you are preparing any kind of dough, do not do it near the oven or any source of heat if you can help it. Dust the clean surface of your work area with flour, but reserve some for your rolling pin and hands. Unfold the sheets of pastry out onto the floured surface. Now take your rolling pin, dust it with flour and begin to roll out the creases in the dough so it will seal properly and not crack or break when you are rolling it around the tenderloin. As your are rolling out the dough make sure you do not over work it too much and keep dusting with flour as needed to prevent the dough from becoming tough when baking. Now you can size up the width and length of the pastry either by your eye or you can measure it. Basically it needs to be long enough to wrap around the girth of the tenderloin with a 1 inch edge to overlap when you finish. That is the piece that is used to seal the seam along the bottom of the tenderloin. You also ne ed at least 1 ? to 2 inches left on the width of the pastry to seal the ends of the tenderloin. If it seems that you are going to need extra dough on the width or length, cut sections from the second sheet of dough, brush the adjoining ends with egg was and overlap them. Pinch the dough together to form a seal and roll out the seams until flat. Patch work is easy and sometimes necessary, but do not worry. You can use the seam to roll under the tenderloin and once you have it wrapped around the meat, you can smooth it out with your hand or cover it with decorations. The same goes for the ends, they are supposed to look like the crinkled, crimped ends of a sausage.Creases are supposed to be there. Just make sure you take your time, do not get frustrated and use the egg wash to help with the seal. Step 8: Now that you have sized up your pastry, make your egg wash. Beat 1 egg in a small bowl with 1 tbsp water until the mixture is slightly frothy or bubbly. Step 9: It is now time to remov e the twine from the tenderloin. The tenderloin should be cool enough that you can handle it. Be gentle removing the twine so the tenderloin does not begin to unroll while you are removing the twine. You can either use tongs, the serving fork or your hands to hold it steady while removing the twine. Cut each piece twine with your knife and pull it from around the tenderloin. Place the tenderloin at the top of the pastry dough with both facing you lengthwise. Making sure you will be able to roll it towards you to see that the dough is not tearing. This also helps to make sure that the patches, if you had to make any, do not break apart as you roll them and you can catch it in case repair in needed. Step 10: Begin rolling the pastry and tenderloin towards you.Make sure the entire piece is covered with pastry as you roll. There should be a 1 ? ââ¬â 2 inch piece of dough hanging over at each end of the rolled tenderloin when complete. With a pastry brush, apply egg wash to the sectio n of pastry at the end of the roll closest to you. Brush egg wash on the dough already around the pastry where the two sections are going to overlap also. This will help secure the seam you are going to create. By pinching the two sections of overlapping dough together that have the egg wash ââ¬Å"glueâ⬠on them you will form a seal of dough.Smooth the seam out with your fingers after you are satisfied it is sealed. This side will be on the bottom of the baking pan so if it is still a bit lumpy that is alright. If you need extra dough on the ends to help complete the seal of the tenderloin use some of the excess scrape pieces you have left over. To seal the ends, fold down the edges starting at the top and working your way around, overlapping the dough and crimping the ends together like a roll of sausage. This is where you can use patchwork if you need a little extra dough just to seal it completely.Brush each end with egg wash to help hold the seal here also. Step 11: Now fo r an elegant touch, you can take small cookie cutters in the shape of leaves, crescent moons or circles and cut shapes of the remaining dough to place on top of the finished roll before placing it in the oven. Make sure you brush the top of the tenderloin again with egg wash if you added these. Step 12: Take your cooking spray and spray the baking sheet lined with foil very generously so the pastry will not stick to the foil.Make sure you have brushed the top and sides of the tenderloin pastry with the egg wash very well before placing the tenderloin, seam side down, on the foil lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet on the middle rack in the center of the oven. Bake at 400 degrees for 13 -16 minutes. This step will help keep the puff pastry crunchy all over, while still cooking the tenderloin long enough to have the slow roasted taste. When the top of the crust starts to become a light golden brown, remove the tenderloin from the oven and check the bottom of it.Has the pastry f ormed a good crust on the bottom or is it still soggy looking? It needs to have a good crust started before we can move it to the roasting pan. If there are still a few soggy parts on the bottom, cover the pastry with a piece of aluminum foil so it doesn't start to burn. There needs to be enough foil to fit down both sides and the ends of the tenderloin roll to ensure the pastry does not overcook and begin to burn during this part. Place the baking sheet back in the over for another 8 or so minutes, checking about 5 ââ¬â 6 minutes in just to make sure it does not burn on the bottom.Step 13: When the pastry wrapped tenderloin becomes crunchy on the bottom, light golden brown on the top and smells like heaven, it is time to add the final touches and allow it to slow roast a little longer to infuse all the wonderful flavors even more. In the bottom of the roasting pan, put the 6 smashed garlic cloves, 2 tsp salt and the 3 tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Just scatter them around und er the baking rack. Now place the tenderloin, seam side down, on the rack inside the roaster. Allow the foil ââ¬Å"hatâ⬠that we used already to cover the pastry to stay on for the first 20 minutes. If you did not have a foil ââ¬Å"hatâ⬠earlier then please make one now so the pastry does not burn during this cooking stage. It needs to cover the sides and all across the top of the pastry. When the 20 minutes is up, remove the roaster from the over and remove the foil ââ¬Å"hatâ⬠from the the tenderloin. Check the pastry for any soggy areas underneath or on the ends. Melt the last 2 tbsp of salted butter and with the pastry brush, slather all of the butter on top of the pastry dough, its sides, edges, everywhere you can reach.Don't worry about the bottom it will run down there and help with the final roasting of the garlic cloves as well. Place the tenderloin uncovered back inside the oven for an additional 15 minutes making sure that you get a golden brown crust on the pastry and do not let it burn. Different ovens vary in temperature and cooking times, please watch your crust to make sure it does not burn. You can reduce the cooking time or increase it as you are cooking this to work with your specific oven. Step 14: Remove the roaster from the oven.Allow the tenderloin to sit in the roaster for about 5-7 minutes, then move it to the cutting board to rest for at least 10 ââ¬â 15 minutes more. This will help with the settling of the juices inside the meat, it will also help when you go to cut it so the pastry does not tear so easily. While your meat is resting, you can be finalizing your side dishes, table arrangements or just sit there and smell how good it smells until you finally get to cut into it. Step 15: The last step in the preparation of this amazing meal centerpiece is the cutting of the tenderloin. The key to cutting a perfect piece is to make sure your knife is extremely sharp. Serrated edged knives are best due to the pastry, h owever, if you prefer a chef's knife, sharpen it very well before you cut into this beautiful masterpiece. I prefer to use the tongs when trying to stabilize the tenderloin for the cut of first slice or two. Poking into the crust with the serving fork right off the bat sometimes allows more juices to run out of the meat while you are trying to cut it and the pastry becomes soggy and tears. So start at the end of your choice and move your knife about 1 to 1 ? inches into the body of the tenderloin. Steady it with your tongs and make one smooth slice from one side of the tenderloin to the other using the full length of the knife, drawing it from the handle down all the way to the tip. Then if you need to go back and slice again, repeat the same step. This will ensure that you are not tearing up the meat or the pastry. This is the conclusion of my special way of cooking Beef Wellington. I hope you will enjoy this dish as much as I have.Preparing it and eating it are both a joy to me. I hope it will be that way for you also. Never let a cookbook scare you into submission. Everything is worth trying to do when it comes to food. You might have to try some things over and over again to get it just the way you like it. The final product regardless of how many times you made it will be worth it. When your family and friends can't stop telling you how wonderful it is, you can tell them it was easy and just smile. Who knows you could have a magic touch

Essay: ââ¬Åto the Young Women of Malolosââ¬Â
Essay: ââ¬Å"To the Young Women of Malolosâ⬠by Dr. Jose Rizal The issues tackled in the writing of Rizal entitled ââ¬Å"The Young Women of Malolosâ⬠are the inequality between men and women, slavery done by the Spaniards because of ignorance, fraud religious beliefs brought by the friars, the role of mothers in the family, tyranny of some because of the cowardice and negligence on the part of others, unreligious acts of the friars towards the Filipinos, education not given to other Filipinos by the Spaniards, and lastly, the abuse of the Spaniards because of the hospitality of the Filipinos.Rizalââ¬â¢s letter to the Malolos young women is his way of recognition for them as brave Filipinas who are no longer blinded by the fraud religious beliefs brought by the friars. Under his letter he mentioned about our own freedom as individual human beings that we must have our own judgment of what is right and wrong. As a young lady, soon to be a mother of her sons and daughters would set as an example to her children. As the saying goes, a fruit would grow the same as of its tree. Women are fragile and can be easily influenced because of ignorance and lacked of knowledge of her rights. The friars took advantage of the kindness and meekness of this youth and brag about it with its fellow Spaniards. If only the Filipinas were like the women of Spartan who have power over their men, maybe no one would dare to touched or harassed a woman. Rizal wanted to make his people open their eyes and to avoid ignorance of freedom. Ignorance is the cause of slavery during their time and this is what we must not let to happen again. He did not want its people to live without a religious belief but he just wants them apprehend not to be deceived by the exploitations done by the friars under their robes. The teachings made must be put into action not just in words. ââ¬Å"To the Women of Malolosâ⬠centers around five salient points (Zaide &Zaide, 1999): First, Filipino m others should teach their children love of God, country and fellowmen. Second, Filipino mothers should be glad and honored, like Spartan mothers, to offer their sons in defense of their country. Third, Filipino women should know how to protect their dignity and honor. Lastly, Filipino women should educate themselves aside from retaining their good racial values.Faith is not merely reciting prayers and wearing religious pictures. It is living the real Christian way with good morals and manners. In recent times, it seems that these qualities are gradually lost in the way Filipino women conduct themselves. There are oftentimes where mothers forget their roles in rearing their children because of the overriding idea of having to earn for the family to supplement their husbandââ¬â¢s income. Although there is nothing negative about working hard for the welfare of the family, there must always be balance in the way people go through life.Failure in the home cannot be compensated for by any amount of wealth or fame. Rizal stipulates a number of important points in this portion of his letter to the young women of Malolos. The central idea here, however, is that whatever a mother shows to her children is what the children will become also. If the mother is always kissing the hand of the friars in submission, then her children will grow up to be sycophants and mindless fools who do nothing but do as they are told, even if the very nature of the task would violate their rights as individuals. In this writing of Rizal, it is obvious that his ultimate desire is to have women the same opportunity men received in terms of education. During those days young girls was not sent to school because of the universal notion that they would soon be only taken as wives and stay only at home with the children. But Rizal emphasizes on freedom of thought and right for education that both girls and boys should have. He had also shown to this letter all about that Spaniards friars. He cite d, ââ¬Å"God gave each individual reason and a will of his or her own to distinguish the just from the unjust; all were born without shackles and free, and nobody has a right to subjugate the will and the spirit of another. â⬠We are all born equal, naked and without bonds. God did not create man to be a slave of others. A man who does not think for himself and allowed him to be guided by the thought of another is like the beast led by a halter. God give us intelligence that we may use against this lavery of others. We must be dignified, have faith on him and work together as one.
